BTM brings to bear a unique set of assets to support the delivery of value through our Solution Delivery Programs:

The Concept to Value Lifecycle brings these assets together to support the highly leveraged delivery of our Solutions and drive rapid and consistent value delivery. The combination of a proven framework, an integrated management platform, training, leadership development and extensive domain expertise supports our customers in the rapid achievement of business value.

BTM Solutions utilize the characteristics defined by the BTM Maturity Model™ to rapidly assess organizational maturity and leverage our pre-defined and on-demand management framework, applications and templates - collectively, the BTM 360™ product suite - to execute a Concept to Value Lifecycle for our customers. At each stage of the cycle, BTM offers unique assets and services that provide our customers the most efficient, rapid and low risk path to greater agility, innovation and operational excellence.

1. Assess Management Maturity

Fundamentally, an enterprise must have a clear understanding of its current management capabilities before it can effectively focus its resources on achieving its business priorities. Transformations are most successful when the enterprise understands the current state of its capacity to manage its business and technology together – that is, its BTM maturity. Only by respecting what ‘is’ can real progress be made toward what ‘is to be’. BTM offers the following tools that can be used to assess an organization’s readiness and ability to drive change:

BTM Maturity Assessment™
The BTM Maturity Assessment is a web-based, self-assessment diagnostic tool that rapidly allows an organization to baseline its current management capability maturity level at an enterprise or business unit level, or both. The BTM Maturity Assessment tool uses the BTM Framework to measure the maturity of the essential management capabilities required for business technology convergence.

Discovery and Gap Analysis
BTM Discovery and Gap Analysis uncovers and analyzes organizational activity - the initiatives, programs, investments and operational functions performed by individuals and organization bodies and departments.

Maturity Analysis
The BTM Fusion 360™ digital design tool contains models of maturity characteristics that are used to analyze the results of the assessment and to identify areas essential to the solution program.

2. Create a Management Playbook

Building on the results of the assessment of management maturity, the next step in the Concept to Value Lifecycle approach is to create the management playbook detailing how management will lead the organization forward. The following are examples of some of the elements that may be included in a Management Playbook:

  • Management processes including, governance, investment management, strategy formulation, business processes, or enterprise architecture

  • Organizational bodies defining their membership, roles and responsibility for decision-making or analysis and recommendations

  • Information elements required (or produced by) each organization body in order to inform the appropriate decision makers

  • Operational policies, plans and procedures that describe how the processes, organization bodies and information elements fit together.

  • Automation tools or applications required to support each organization body

The BTM offerings that facilitate this step are:

BTM Fusion 360 Contextual Research
BTM Fusion 360 is packaged with research directly related to the management capabilities defined in the BTM Framework. The collaborative design environment in BTM Fusion 360 can be used to tailor an education program for key stakeholders.

BTM Academy
Extensive stakeholder education can be provided through BTM Academy programs. Participants of these programs acquire the expertise required to effectively lead at the enterprise level, and upon completion receive a Business Technology Management (BTM) Certificate of Participation or Achievement.

Maturity Advancement Plan (MAP)
A Maturity Advancement Plan, translates the results of a BTM Maturity Assessment into a comprehensive plan for improving the maturity of targeted BTM Management Capabilities. Every MAP is assembled based on BTM Fusion 360 capabilities, which dramatically increase the speed at which it can be created. Further, each MAP component is easily tailored to match an organization’s current maturity level and is therefore configured to not only define the detailed steps required, but to also document the expected business value that will be achieved.

Destination Roadmap
A Destination Roadmap is a comprehensive program plan for implementing a BTM Solution. Every Destination Roadmap is assembled using pre-defined elements contained in BTM Fusion 360, which dramatically increase the speed at which it can be created. Further, each roadmap component is easily tailored to match an organization’s current situation and is therefore configured to not only define the detailed steps required, but, like a MAP, to document the expected business value that will be achieved.

Value Analysis and Projection
When the Destination Roadmap is developed, BTM will provide a value projection for achieving the target outcomes. BTM will provide value opportunity estimates using relationships between performance improvement and maturity level advances as developed through the BTM Institute research embodied in the BTM Convergence Index studies as well as other industry benchmarks for business agility, innovation management and operational excellence.

Maturity Advancement Plans and Destination Roadmaps can stand alone, or complement each other, depending on the desired outcome. MAP’s advance management maturity and Destination Roadmaps drive to a solution; together, an organization can achieve the benefits of a solution, plus acquire a repeatable management practice to continue to drive similar solutions on their own.

3. Model and Analyze Future State

Execution of the Destination Roadmap begins with identifying the optimal future state for the organization and describing it in a holistic manner – from strategy to service delivery. To accelerate this critical set of activities, BTM offers modeling and scenario analysis using BTM Works 360™, a collaborative decision workbench.

Model Development
BTM Works 360 models are built in layers that describe how business and technology fit together, for example the Business Model, Organization Model, Business Process Model, Application Model and System Model.

Scenario Analysis
BTM Works 360 models are built with intelligent objects that contain the information necessary to perform scenario analysis.  A wide range of information types can be analyzed, for example financial, prioritization, demographic and ownership, architectural fit, and risk.

4. Develop, Execute and Track

The optimal future state for the enterprise is achieved by developing a set of implementation programs and  necessary supporting investment proposals. Those investment proposals must then be rationalized and filtered through a collaborative approval process, and then their execution must be tracked and managed.

Program Development, Tracking and Management
BTM Works 360 provides a complete support environment for developing and managing the investment programs that drive change, enable transformation, or implement a solution. BTM Works 360 provides a portfolio view of investments, enables the collaborative decision-making to fund them, and then track the programs that bring them to life.

5. Manage Performance and Capture Value

During the Manage Performance and Capture Value phase the operational effectiveness delivered by investment and solution programs are monitored to measure their business effectiveness. Poor performance is detected as early as possible and addressed; superior performance is captured and incorporated into the Management Playbook to advance organizational learning and BTM Management Capability Maturity. Activities during this phase include assessing processes to identify opportunities for continuous optimization, identifying and evaluating enhancements, and providing any additional education. BTM provides the following tools to support these activities:

Performance Dashboards
BTM Works 360 scorecards present an organization’s strategic goals and visually display progress against these goals. The average or median measurements of execution and progress are based over longer time periods such as weeks, months, current or prior years. Scorecards inform decision-makers about the overall strategic goals of the organization and identify which aspects are performing according to plan and which areas need additional focus.

BTM Solutions are tailored to address the specific needs, structures, and circumstances of each Solution Program we undertake. Our Concept to Value Lifecycle approach provides our clients with rapid program results, effective and efficient interventions, and sustainable and measurable value.
