BTM Framework

The Foundation of BTM 360™ Management Platform

BTM Corporation launched a multi-year research and development effort that began in 1999, which resulted in the creation of a set of products and solutions that provide the structure, automation, and analytics needed to converge the management of business and technology. This dedicated process introduced the industry's first integrated business and technology management framework. The BTM Framework serves as the foundation for the BTM 360 Product Suite, which provides the bridge between management science and management implementation.

Grounded in research and practice, the BTM Framework aims to create a seamless management approach that begins with business priorities and goals and connects all the way through technology investment and implementation. It is the structured approach that unifies decision-making from the Boardroom to the C-Suite to the Project Management Team.

BTM Framework

BTM Framework capabilities define a set of organizational competencies that enable an enterprise to manage business and technology together. Maturity in these capabilities is achieved through the implementation of well-defined processes, appropriate organizational structures, timely information, and appropriate technology automation. Foundation capabilities (highlighted in red in the above image) are those "first-order" items whose maturity underlies overall Business Technology Maturity, and which appear as critical elements in the largest number of Business Technology Solutions. Higher-level capabilities are those that are often developed later in the maturation process, which may carry differing levels of importance from enterprise to enterprise.

Maturity Models

A maturity model describes how well an organization performs a particular set of activities in comparison to a prescribed standard. A maturity model also makes it possible for an enterprise to identify anomalies in performance and benchmark itself against other companies or across industries.

Developed by the BTM Institute, the BTM Maturity ModelTM defines the five levels of maturity, scored across the four critical dimensions - process, organization, information and technology - for each BTM Framework capability - and describes the characteristics of a converged enterprise.

In this fashion the maturity model allows measurement of management capabilities, secures a starting point, identifies areas most in need of improvement, and specifies the path for change. It is the objective foundation of a BTM Capability Maturity Assessment™ and a maturity advancement plan. The Maturity Model defines the detailed characteristics for each capability and dimension for the 5 levels of maturity (1 = Initial; 2 = Repeatable; 3 = Defined; 4 = Managed; 5 = Optimizing).
